Behind the Scenes: Making (and Setting Fire to) DBGB's Baked Alaska
[Photographs: Laura Togut]
In my humble opinion, ice cream is basically proof that god loves us and wants us to be happy. So what could be better? I dunno... OH WAIT. ICE CREAM THAT YOU LIGHT ON FIRE.
Enter the Baked Alaska. (Because your dessert should not only be delicious, but it should also make you squeal with glee as it goes up in flames at your table.)
So we headed to DBGB, where you can get a baked Alaska for two that will put the one you had on a cruise ship once to shame. Theirs is made with house-made raspberry sorbet and pistachio and vanilla ice creams, and a meringue that's flambéed with kirsch—tableside, of course.
