As Valentine's Day approaches, reservations are being made, menus planned, and cards penned. What about adding a homemade gift to that list? Something easy to make but romantic in spirit? Something decadent. Something with chocolate. Something like truffles.
A basic chocolate truffle isn't difficult to make. There are really two steps: first, make a ganache from chocolate and cream and chill. Once that sets, roll the ganache into balls and dust them with cocoa powder. They're easy candies with a melt-in-your mouth, decadent flavor.
Of course the fun part is making them your own. You can add liquor, nuts, or spices. You can even expand the definition a little and make truffles out of cake. Click through the slideshow to see these ideas and more.
