Sugar Rush: Salted Caramel Pecan Babka Roll at The Sycamore Kitchen, Los Angeles

The word on the street was that the salted caramel pecan babka roll ($3.50) at The Sycamore Kitchen is stunning, and it turns out the word is right on. On the outside, it resembles a sticky pecan bun more than a babka roll. Toasted pecans are held in place by a thick layer of sticky sugar, which gives the outer layers of the roll a little crunch. Inside, the roll is a recipe-perfect image of a cinnamon bun. The inner layers are soft, with the enticing smell of yeast bread. Though it never gets overly sweet, this is definitely a no-holds-barred roll, meaning every bite is intense. Order some Stumptown cold brew coffee to help cut through the sugar, then take a seat by the window and enjoy.
