Bake the Book: The Epicurious Cookbook

There's a certain thrill that comes from trying a new recipe and discovering that it's really, really good. Especially when you're the one that gets to share it with others, and add your own tips and spin.

Even better than that individual thrill is coming across an entire collection of recipes just like that, vetted and verified to each be totally worth making. It's like having an entire team behind you in the kitchen. That's exactly what you'll find in The Epicurious Cookbook. Starting as an online database, grew to contain more than 180,000 recipes. The site editors have combed through this massive assortment to select the highest-rated, best-loved samples, complete with endorsements from users.

The book itself is organized by season and meal type. There are all kinds of recipes, from comfort foods, fast weeknight dinners, brunches, and the reason we're here—decadent desserts. Rather than predictable selections of brownies and cookies, there are recipes for ice cream, fudge, pies, and more. It's a rare cookbook that can take you throughout the year with novel cooking inspiration, but this one can.

Every single recipe has tips and suggestions to tweak and improve the end result. After all, there is something reassuring about a tagline stating 'recipes you'll make over and over.' The desserts alone are worth getting the book. We'll start our feature with crispy waffles with salted caramel coulis, and follow up with a sage & honey skillet cornbread. Irish soda bread is next, and lastly a gluten-free lemon layer cake.
