Peanut Butter Oreo Fudge Cremes

Much as classic cereals keep spinning off new variations, Oreo isn't content with its classic sandwich cookies; there's always something new on the supermarket shelves. The latest we've tried? Peanut Butter Oreo Fudge Cremes.

Translation: a slim Oreo wafer covered in a peanut butter filling, encased in a sweet fudge coating.

The peanut butter's a little creamier than, say, the Reese's version. It's on the sweeter end but certainly tastes more like PB than a peanut butter-flavored cream filling. There's not a ton of it; the double chocolate hit of cookie + fudge takes over the flavor, but there's enough. The whole thing ends up tasting not unlike a crunchy Reese's, or like the Girl Scout cookie Tagalongs (also known as Peanut Butter Patties).

If you like Oreos and you like peanut butter, there's no reason you wouldn't appreciate these, too. But here's the thing: they're not constructed like real Oreos. Nothing is sandwiched! Just a PB-topped cookie coated in fudge. Sure, the somewhat distinctive chocolatey-but-not-chocolatey wafer cookie is in there. But there's nothing to twist apart! No simple way to pry open and scrape the filling off with your teeth. (Am I allowed to admit that I still do that at my age?)

I'd eat them again, but I'm not sure I wouldn't rather have a normal Oreo. "It satisfies a different craving," mused Maggie, and I think that's right. If I'm hankering after peanut butter and Oreos, give me a Double Stuf, a jar of Skippy, and a spoon. But if I want something halfway between a Reese's and a cookie? These might do the trick.
