Cakes are often made for celebrations, and that can mean pressure. The pressure to pick the right cake. The pressure to have it come out right. That's where we came in. This year, we gave you great choices for everything from summery ice box cakes to grand decorated confections, plus tips on making pound cake, layered cakes, and more.
We were quite the cookie archivists this year, chronicling the entire lines of some well known brands, as well as entering a whopping 41 recipes from our annual Cookie Swap into our cookie database. We also played transformers: making cookies into other sweets, and baking 9 cookies from 1 dough.
2012 was undeniably the year of the drunken gummy. You guys just love stuffing those little bears with booze and well, we can't blame you. But you also shared love for other candy, including Turkish Delight, Jelly Bellies, and homemade Butterfingers. Check out all the sugary highlights in the slideshow.
This year in pastry and doughnuts, we learned a lot. Whether it was the proper technique for making pastry cream, or how to identify all the different doughnut styles, or what to eat at the country's best bakeries, we were improving our minds and our bellies. Sounds like a win-win to us.
