These peanutty bar cookies are jammed with Reese's Pieces on top for an extra pop of chocolate-PB flavor.
'Halloween' on Serious Eats
This year, when it came time to think about candy, we asked ourselves, "When's the last time you tried a new candy—just because?" We couldn't remember the last time, and suffice to say we made it our mission to rediscover the joy (and sometimes more disgust than joy) of trying a new candy. Check out all of our experiences here. (Glass of milk suggested.)
The idea is simple: classic pecan pie, plus candy corn. The candy corn melts so beautifully into the corn syrup and brown sugar mixture that it must feel like it's coming home; it adds a nice, vanilla-y sweetness to the pie that will satisfy even the sweetest of teeth.
Happy Halloween, Serious Eaters! Here's a one stop shop for all your pumpkin, candy, carving, and drinking needs.
All Hallows Eve is finally here and we're celebrating by rotting our teeth on as much candy as we can get a hold of. We're also into anything sweet and spooky, like these awesome homemade treats from the SE community. Check out the zombified cupcakes, ghostly meringues, and more!
Sometimes, if you hang around the Serious Eats office late enough, weird things start to happen. Like the time Max and I, clocking overtime to meet a tight deadline, decided that making a 7-layer candy bar dip was a reasonable undertaking. You ask "why,"; we say," because it's obviously the best idea in the history of candy!"
In this ode to candy corn, a buttery, tri-color cake is layered with buttercream frosting and enrobed in chocolate ganache. It's the perfect un-scary Halloween cake.
While these cookies might not instill fear in the hearts of wee trick-or-treaters, they have a tasty cream cheese dough and are fun to decorate.
With Halloween just a few days away, it's time for things to get a little creepy in the kitchen. We have recipes to suit every kind of halloween bash, from a crowd pleasing
giant Reese's Peanut Butter Cup Pie, to entirely edible spider-topped cupcakes, to homemade candy corn.
What happens when you go to Economy Candy and clear the store out of all their gummy candy animals? You let them have a little party. In this case it's an End of the World party, and the gummy bears, penguins, and lobsters are going out in style.
Here's a toasted coconut ice cream studded with dark chocolate and toasted almonds, crunchy and creamy in equal measure. In other words, like an Almond Joy, but better.
If you're looking for a wicked easy, sort of spooky sweet to add to your Halloween festivities, give this chocolate and marshmallow treat a try.
Austin bakers are getting creative as they gear up for Halloween. So why just have another pumpkin flavored treat when you can celebrate with creepy cupcakes, gingerdead men, wormy doughnuts, and more?
I cherish a bowl of mini Twix and baby Reese's cups as much as the next person, but Halloween also presents a good excuse to splurge on high-quality candy. Here are some of the Hub's best picks for artisan sweets, a number of which are all dressed up for the holiday.
Moist and spicy pumpkin bread with swirls of chocolate is perfect for the Halloween season. And you just need a bowl and a whisk to make it.
The wrapper for the U-No describes the candy bar as "RICH CREAMY CHOCOLATE." Nope. What it should say is "DIET CHOCOLATE-FLAVORED FROSTING."
Graham crackers are more famous for their role in s'mores than as a stand-alone sweet. But perhaps it's time to challenge that notion with a homemade seasonal variation: pumpkin graham crackers.
The Chunky fascinates me. The name alone made it worthy of my selection. And what about that early 90s outfit it's wearing? Those power-suit pinstripes, that clunky font! Chunky feels no need to keep up with the times—it's confident in its retro-self!
Spiced pumpkin cheesecake is swirled into a rich brownie base. Individual portions make these moist brownies easy to serve.
When's the last time you tried a new candy? Not a seasonal new release, but an established candy or candy bar that, for no reason in particular, you've never picked up? For the SE staff, that time is now. Each day for the next two weeks we will try a candy we've never had before then tell the tale. First up? The GooGoo Cluster.
