Weekend Baking Project: Apple Crostata

This crostata is a great way to use up the bounty of your first trip to the apple orchard. To that end, I find it's best to use a combination of sweet and tart apples—Honey Crisps, Galas, and Granny Smiths are a nice mix—and spice them with just enough cinnamon and nutmeg to add depth without weighing the fruit down.

What I love about this crostata is its versatility: it's not overly sweet and has enough fruit to feel perfectly reasonable at breakfast, but served warm with vanilla ice cream and you've got a great dessert.
