Supermarket Sweets: We Try the New Chips Ahoy Brownie Filled Cookies
Nabisco has been making some interesting upgrades to their line of Chips Ahoy cookies lately, including stuffing them with gooey fudge and mixing in pieces of Heath Toffee and miniature Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. But their latest tweak might be the most extreme of all: filling Chewy Chips Ahoy cookies with brownies.
Straight out of the box, they look pretty similar to their standard Chewy Chips Ahoy cookie cousins, except they're a bit chubbier and smoother on the top. But once you break them in half, though, you can see just how much brownie filling is inside.
There's a lot. Really, this cookie is mostly brownie. It's visually striking, but unfortunately the brownie doesn't deliver on the expected textures or flavor. It's not significantly chocolatey or fudgy, but more like a cocoa-tinged version of the standard dough, minus the chips.
That's not great news if you were hoping this new cookie would be a legitimate mash-up of two classic treats. If you've always wished your Chewy Chips Ahoy cookies could be softer, it might be worth giving it a try. Swapping out the hard, shrapnel-like chocolate chips with a smooth, chocolatey center makes this cookie the softest Chewy Chips Ahoy cookie yet. If it's a real dessert-filled cookie you're looking for, however, you're better off giving something like this a try.
