At Ken's Artisan Bakery in Portland's Alphabet District, tarts are always a good way to go. Fillings change with the seasons, and can include anything from grapefruit to marionberries, pumpkin, and blueberries. I got lucky, landing this beauty of a strawberry tart ($5). The flaky, buttery shell is filled with just enough vanilla cream to cradle the berries, which are lightly brushed with a sweet glaze, giving them a sheen (and additional touch of sweetness).
Between the strawberry sitting on top and those sliced in half and arranged around the perimeter, there had to be at least eight big, juicy strawberries sitting snugly inside the shell. That's more than enough to get one in every last bite.
