The history of flowers in food is long and widespread. Many cultures have incorporated buds and blooms into dishes both sweet and savory. But despite their storied past, flowers aren't often seen in everyday cooking. Luckily, Miche Bacher doesn't follow this rule. Cooking With Flowers is an eye-popping book of more than 100 recipes featuring edible blossoms in various preparations.

Miche Bacher, founder of Mali B Sweets, roots her recipes in simplicity and quality. Bacher's balanced palate and eye for color make steps like roasting daylily buds or dropping pansies into pancake batter seem logical and look beautiful. Cooking with Flowers teaches you how to source and prepare a garden's worth of edible petals.

The book is divided into short chapters, each dedicated to a type of flower. There's a page of information provided for each, a lesson to which the recipes are the homework. Taken as a whole, Cooking with Flowers is an excellent way to build botanical knowledge while strengthening your culinary skill.

Join us for Hollyhock Clafouti, a skillet pancake studded with cherries. We'll also be making Pansy Rhubarb Galettes, a summer classic sprinkled with bits of bright blue. Finishing the feature are Goat Cheese Nasturtium Ice Cream and Popcorn Chive Cupcakes.
