In these uncertain times, sometimes you have to consider the drastic. You have to play the If You Were Stuck On A Desert Island game, and ask the tough questions. That's what we did this week, forcing our staff to answer the question, "What do you like better, chocolate chip or oatmeal raisin cookies?"

Turns out, it might not be such a hard question after all. People didn't hesitate to choose sides. The results below!

Camp Chocolate Chip

"I love raisins, really, but if I want them in a dessert I'm gonna soak them in rum and bake them into fruitcake or bread pudding. I think your average chocolate chip cookie is usually more successful than your average oatmeal raisin—fewer pitfalls—but as for the best of each category, buttery-gooey chocolate chip wins every time. On the other hand, when it comes to cakey desserts, raisins all the way."—Max Falkowitz, NY Editor

"I'm not much of a cookie eater, but I have a deep appreciation for great chocolate chip cookies. Striking that perfect crisp-chewy balance, getting the crisp toffee-like edges while maintaining a moist, gooey center, and of course the right salty-sweet profile. The best I've had are Joanne Chang's from Flour Bakery in Boston. And she's a swell lady to boot!"—J. Kenji López-Alt, Chief Creative Officer

"Chocolate chip. I wouldn't say no to an oatmeal raisin cookie, but chocolate chip cookies are my favorite kind of cookie, as boring of a choice as that may be."—Robyn Lee, AHT Editor

"CHOCOLATE CHIP. I grew up eating a lot of oatmeal raisin because it was the "healthy cookie" so I totally have to rebel against my parents and say chocolate chip all the way. In fact I'm craving one right now."—Jen Weinberg, Ad Sales Director

"I'd choose a good Oatmeal Raisin cookie over a mediocre Chocolate Chip any day. But if it's a fair race between two great cookies in each category, I'm picking the Chocolate Chip. And this is coming from a big Oatmeal Raisin advocate who feels the need to defend them whenever they're being bashed, especially the raisin element. Have you seen this t-shirt?!"—Erin Zimmer, National Managing Editor

"Chocolate chip cookies, all the time. Who picks raisins over chocolate chips? Now if we're talking about oatmeal chocolate chip cookies vs. regular chocolate chip, that's another story..."—Ben Fishner, Advertising Operations

Team Oatmeal Raisin

"Oatmeal raisin all the way. The middle-meets-edge part of an oatmeal cookie, with the buttery, sweet oatmeal base getting all golden and crisp but still chewy in the middle, is unbeatable."—Carey Jones, Senior Managing Editor

"Choosing is for the narrow minded. Ok fine. Fine. Oatmeal raisin. I love the hearty, rustic texture of the oat dough and I might be the only person in the world addicted to raisins. Plus chocolate chip cookies made with crap chocolate can have a weird, fruity taste, and not in a good way."—Carrie Vasios, Sweets Editor

"It's hard to resist a good chocolate chip cookie, especially warm from the oven, but my family's recipe for oatmeal cookies knocks it out of the park. The secret ingredient (shhhhhhh) is a little unsweetened cocoa powder in the dough—not enough to taste like chocolate, but just enough to add a little extra flavor."—Maggie Hoffman, Drinks Editor

"Can I do the and/or combo? Chocolate chip oatmeal cookies are my jam. Growing up, we seemed to find them every other year at Stew Leonard's."—Jessica Leibowitz, Videographer (ed note: we're giving to go ahead and give this to TOR because...sad.)
