Given my post-hoilday exhaustion, dessert has been mostly a piece of fruit—a cara cara orange, say, or a few cute clementines. It's time to gear back up into baking, and this is the perfect recipe to do so.
Figs are delicious on their own, but cut in half, drizzled with honey and vanilla, then broiled, they become something even better. Still restrained but with great depth of flavor, this makes a nice light dessert or, paired with some vanilla ice cream, a dish worthy of a grander affair.
