A couple weeks back I had the pleasure of taking a trip down to the Krispy Kreme headquarters in Winston-Salem, NC for their 2nd Annual Blogger Summit. The two day event was a crash course in everything Krispy Kreme-related—from product innovation to international expansion to the particulars of the production process. (Unfortunately no professional cameras were allowed in the mix plant!).
Through presentations, tours and hands-on experiences, eleven bloggers and I had the opportunity to learn more about the doughnut icon than we ever thought possible. Highlights included a coffee tasting of the company's signature blends, a Q&A with the head chefs, and a doughnut-making session where I indulged my most childish pleasures. Unfortunately, while I got to hold the secret recipe in my hand, I could not use my telepathic powers crack the mystery. Few people on staff knew the specifics of the doughnut mix, and those who did remained ambiguous as could be.
