Slideshow SLIDESHOW: Ask The Pastry Chef: What To Eat At Azúcar In San Diego

Deciding what to pick at Azúcar, Vivian Hernandez-Jackson's Cuban style patisserie at the top of the strip in Ocean Beach, can be downright daunting. The selection is vast, including bars and brownies, scones, muffins, cakes, caramels, and cookies. Making matters even more difficult, everything looks equally delicious.

If you find yourself transfixed in front of the display, vacillating between two options, the best thing to do is get them both, because the desserts at Azúcar are so well-balanced (and never overly sweet) that even though you may not think you want to eat an entire mini cake followed by a cookie, it's very possible (and trust me, you won't regret it).

We asked Vivian for her top 5 picks and she delivered a mixed bag of treats, including cheap thrills and longtime favorites. Click through the slideshow to see all of her recommendations.
