Specialty bakeries can definitely be great—if you've perfected rice pudding, by all means, open a shop and share your love—but there is something irresistible about walking into a bakery that has trays of cookies, cake stands boasting big, frosted layer cakes, shelves lined with wee cupcakes, and maybe some tarts, pudding, and pastries to boot. It's the joy of being a kid in a candy store, except with the blessing of being old enough to buy as much as you want and eat it all yourself.
Such is the experience of going into SusieCakes, the old-fashioned bakery (now with a few locations around California) from Susan Sarich. Because there are so many options at Susie's, it's worth checking in seasonally to see what's new and baking. Right now, that's all things fall, with apples, caramel, and pumpkin as just the beginning. Click through the slideshow to see all the seasonal items.
