First Look: Fall Desserts at Cucina Urbana, San Diego
San Diego restaurant Cucina Urbana has nabbed a new executive pastry chef in Jack Fisher. Fisher has helmed many a pastry program, most notably at Nine-Ten, a highly lauded fine dining destination in La Jolla. Cucina Urbana is more casual than Nine-Ten, but Fisher hasn't dumbed down his desserts. The presentation is a bit simpler (a necessity in such a busy kitchen), but he's employing the same techniques.
Restraint is a key component of Jack's process. His pastries aren't a substitute for sedation, instead, he consciously crafts his desserts so that you always want just one more bite. Well played sir, but you can easily get around that by ordering two of them.
Options on the fall menu include Zeppole, Caramel Panna Cotta with Nutella and Cocoa Peanut Crumble, a gelato and sorbet sampler, and various cheese boards. All items (except the cheese) are $8 to $8.50 each. Click through the slideshow above to see all the new desserts at Cucina Urbana.
