Here's a recipe you can share with your canine companion, courtesy of The Dahlia Bakery Cookbook: Sweetness in Seattle. Peanut butter and bacon is a winning combination, and the use of wheat germ and whole wheat flour makes them hearty and satisfying.

Tips: If you're going to make these, try at least having a dog around. That way you can pretend you didn't make a batch of dog treats for yourself.

Tweaks: If you can't find wheat germ (though you should try, as its sweetly nutty flavor is a big plus in this recipe), substitute for bran or ground flaxseed, also marketed as flax meal. These can also be made into strips, for lack of a bone-shaped cutter, but the yield will be slightly different.
