Lick has become one of my very favorite local establishments here in Austin despite it being relatively new. Why? One, the place is adorable and the staff ridiculously friendly. Two, it's artisan ice cream (really amazing and unique ice cream) which they make in small batches. Three, they tout "honest ingredients" that are sourced from around Texas.
When you walk in, everything is bright, modern, and endearingly welcoming. Their current flavors are prettily penned on note cards that hang on the wall with item descriptions. This helps you navigate the rainbow colored ice cream case, as these are not your run of the mill ice creams.
You'll see flavors ranging from "Roasted Beets and Fresh Mint" to "Caramelized Carrots and Tarragon" to more familiar flavors like "Caramel Salt Lick." Don't be apprehensive of the newness; they are all creamy, sweet, and worthy of more than a few scoops. They regularly have new flavors, rotating with the season's herbs and flowers.
I love the simplicity concept. There are no candy add-ins. No sundaes. No shakes. It's ice cream in its purest form—and it works because the ice cream truly doesn't need anything else to distract from the quality. It stands complicated and delicious enough on its own.
As for the ingredients themselves, they're all natural, organic, and sourced from Texas. We Austinites love to support local, and Lick is a great place to do it.
