Slideshow SLIDESHOW: 11 Frozen Treats You Should Eat This Summer in Seattle

It's said that summer comes to Seattle on July 5, but Seattleites don't wait for warm weather to indulge. Here you'll see people standing in line for ice cream and the like throughout the year.

There's been a steady boom of new businesses serving frozen treats recently, with no sign of the trend abating. In addition to numerous ice cream shops, you can find gelato, frozen custard, frozen yogurt, sorbet, shaved ice, and slushes scattered around the city. And that doesn't even account for what's getting mixed into the ice cream—in just the past month, a cupcake chain and a doughnut chain have gotten into the act.

With the variety and quality of offerings, it's a tremendous challenge to choose the best scoop shops in Seattle. To make my list, I'm looking for fascinating flavors and forms of frozen treats that I can take to the streets. Then again, I'm drawn to interesting settings to lounge and linger. But, at the end of the day, what I really want is quality: creaminess, freshness, and fantastic flavor. The resulting list of scoop shops is full of places that are unique, iconic, or just plain delicious. Check the slideshow for my choice of eleven special frozen treats in Seattle.
