Marshmallow Madness Recap Week One: West Coast
Last week we announced the kickoff of Marshmallow Madness, a month-long competition that pits sixteen regional food bloggers (and their marshmallows) against each other. And now that we're deep in the heat of some sweet competition, we thought we'd go ahead and introduce the contenders. First up, we've got the West Coast bracket.
Starting off the games, we have Kitchen Konfidence, a San Diego based blog offering up a modern take on that campfire classic, Maple Bacon S'mores. Brandon Matzek personalized the recipe by caramelizing the 'mallows with a kitchen torch, topping them with bitter chocolate, and sandwiching them between two tasty homemade graham crackers.
Also hailing from sunny San Diego is Love Veggies and Yoga, a blog with a serious sweet tooth. Averie created s'mores inspired bars with layers of graham crackers, white and dark chocolate, peanut butter, Cocoa Krispies and mini marshmallows. And she's thoughtfully added vegan and gluten-free options to the recipe.
When Cristina A. Moore of TeenieCakes was asked to contribute to the West Coast leg of this competition, her inspiration ran to the East with these lovely Indian accented Chai Spiced Pistachio Marshmallows made with a custom blended chai mix.
Alanna over at Kitchen Parade seems to be just as passionate about March Madness as she is with Marsh Madness. Her marshmallow-y addition to this round of the game were Orange-Kissed Marshmallows made extra orange-y with frozen concentrate and orange extract.
We're going to have to wait until the bitter end to see whose marshmallows come out on top, but for now you can follow along here with our Monday recaps and check out the action in realtime on Twitter by using the hashtag #MarshMadness.
