Slideshow: Gift Guide: For The Ice Cream Maker

Ice Cream Maker, Fancy Edition
Ice Cream Maker, Fancy Edition
This premium home ice cream maker has a built-in compressor so you can churn batch after batch, back to back (we've run it for six hour-long marathon churn sessions). Compressor ice cream machines are expensive, but the DeLonghi produces exceptionally smooth and creamy ice creams and sorbets. It's more compact than other machines in its class, but it's built like an ox. (Available online, $248)

Ice Cream Maker, Budget Edition

If you don't have $250 to spend, the Cuisinart ICE-21 is a great alternative. It has a bowl that must be chilled in the freezer for 24 hours, and it usually can't make more than one batch in a row, but unless your fledgling ice cream chef is really hardcore, this should cover his or her needs. Adding chunky ingredients is easy thanks to an open hole at the top of the machine. Though it lacks the instant gratification convenience of a compressor machine, this baby makes great ice cream at a fraction of the price. Additional freezer bowls are available separately. (Available online, $47)

Real Maraschino Cherries
Real Maraschino Cherries
An old school sundae is one of the best ways to enjoy ice cream, but the chemical-and-corn-syrup-soaked maraschino cherry could use some improvement. These Luxardo cherries are the real thing—some of the best preserved fruit you can buy. They're a bit pricey for an everyday purchase, but that's all the more reason to give them as gifts. (You'll win double points if the recipient is an Old Fashioned drinker.) (Available online, $16)
