While we love ginger any time of year, there's something about its spicy bite (or maybe its affinity for cinnamon and cloves) that makes it perfect for fall. Here are some of our favorite ginger dessert recipes, from plum and ginger cobblers to ginger cookies with cardamom and black pepper.

Ice Cream

Roasted Plum, Ginger, and Honey Ice Cream: "Sweet plummy juices," that only get richer when the fruit is roasted, blend beautifully with fresh ginger, "all spice and sass."

Celery Ice Cream with Candied Ginger and Rum-Plumped Golden Raisins: "Wow, that's a long title," you might be thinking; but the herbal flavors of celery are a good match for spicy ginger, and what's a more classic combo than ginger and rum?

Ginger-Raspberry Swirl Ice Cream: The spicy bite of ginger counters the sweet, sticky raspberry jam.

Rhubarb-Ginger Sorbet: This sorbet is "a bright, refreshing mix of sweet, tart, and spicy flavors."

Ginger Beer, Rum, and Coconut Sorbet: It's like a Dark and Stormy in frozen form—with coconut milk to make it creamy.

Gingerbread and Trappist Ale Ice Cream: Fresh ginger and candied ginger are a huge improvement on most gingerbreads' flat ground ginger flavor; cinnamon, star anise, allspice, cardamom, and black peppercorn make for a deep, complex spice blend, with the added flavor of a rich dark ale.

Cakes, Pies, and Cobblers

Plum-Blackberry Cobbler: Minced crystallized ginger adds "sharp pinpricks of spice that jolt the fruit flavors."

Plum and Ginger Cobbler: Late summer plums transition into fall with the help of ginger, further spiced with cardamom and star anise.

Ginger Custard Pumpkin Pie: "What sets this pie apart is that it uses a ginger-infused custard base to lighten up the traditional canned pumpkin puree."

Candy

Chinese Ginger-Lime Candy: "Mixing spicy grated ginger into the sticky, caramelly candies gives them a great little bite and the lime oil lends an elegant floral note."
