It's not quite hot chocolate season yet, but with this rainy weather we've been having I'm ready to get a kick start on this cold season favorite. La Maison du Chocolat offers their supremely rich and bold hot chocolate drink in stores, but what's the secret to replicating it at home?

This: the Tasse de Chocolat ($18)—a gold-lined tube of little chocolate pearls, dark chocolate, of course. It's enough to make precisely four decadent cups—melt into a blend of hot milk and cream for a richer, vibrant concoction, or substitute the cream for water to create a more pure and intense hot chocolate.

These pearls are pretty versatile, too: increase the ratio of chocolate to cream and simmer the mixture over the stove for a few extra minutes. The result? A very velvety and deep chocolate sauce. Bring on the vanilla ice cream!
