20110717-161658-plum-gorgeous.jpgWith its deep red cover graced with a juicy halved plum, Romney Steele's Plum Gorgeous appears to be a valentine to fruit. It's a beautiful love letter to stone fruit at the prime of ripeness, complete with stories from the orchard, little poems and proverbs singing their praises, and of course, lavishly illustrated and elegant seasonal fruit recipes for both sweet and savory dishes.

With apricots, nectarines, peaches, and plums soon gracing the shelves of our markets, we thought that these last two weeks of July would be the perfect time to share a handful of stone fruit recipes from Plum Gorgeous with all of you. Going beyond the simplicity of typical summer dessert fare, Steele's desserts are refined: when given a bowl of cherries she opts for a custardy, almond topped Cherry Clafoutis. Bring her a bushel of peaches and you'll get Honey-Lime Peaches with Crème Fraîche Clouds. We'll be sharing these plus a few more of Steele's perfect summer desserts during the next two weeks here on Bake the Book, so be sure to stock up on stone fruit for snacking and baking.
